Eco Tourism

Jingeri, Welcome!

We acknowledge and pay respect to the land and the traditional families of the Wangerriburra community and the Yugambeh region of South-East Queensland and their Elders, past, present, and emerging. The Yugambeh region includes families that identify as Kombumerri, Mununjali, Wangerriburra and others.

We are very proud to announce that, as of July 2024, we have achieved certification from EcoTourism Australia under their Nature Tourism Certification, and we are now a Quality Tourism Accredited Business. EcoTourism Australia, a globally recognized non-profit organization endorsed by the GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council), ensures rigorous standards are met to prevent greenwashing by thoroughly assessing nature-based tourism businesses. This certification confirms that we meet the highest standards in sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.

This accomplishment represents a major milestone for everyone involved, yet it is only the starting point of our sustainability journey. We remain committed to continuous learning and improvement to operate as authentically and sustainably as possible, safeguarding our natural environment for future generations.

Emission Monitoring System

Over the last year we have developed and implemented a new emission monitoring process to assist in measuring our emissions to ensure that our initiatives are having the positive effect we strive for.

Landfill Waste Reduction

We have implemented several systems throughout the park to reduce our landfill waste contributions.

The most effective way to reduce our landfill contribution is to create a streamlined separated waste system to ensure as much waste can be responsibly recycled as possible. We have separate waste streams for the following:

Green Waste/Compost

All our suitable fruit and vegetable scraps from our restaurant kitchen, as well as our coffee grounds are collected daily and deposited into our large three bay compost system.

Containers for Change

We have partnered with Containers for Change to fit out our entire park with 10c collection bins!

Paper/Cardboard Recycling

We bundle and compact our paper and cardboard waste to be recycled in specialized paper/cardboard recycling systems.

E-Waste

As technology advances, so does the creation of E-Waste (Electronic Waste) This waste is often able to be refurbished or reused and recycled if disposed of responsibly! For this reason we have chosen Substation 33 to handle our E-Waste collections.

Office Waste

Our office utilises the existing waste stream lists, and we then separate these waste streams even further!

  • Our printer cartridges are collected and recycled through the Fujifilm OfficeCare Cartridge Collection Program
  • Our batteries, pens and writing equipment are collected and recycled through Officeworks’ “Bring it Back” recycling system
  • All offices have separate paper/cardboard recycling and general waste bins.
  • We have a printer tray for “waste” paper that can be reused by staff.

General Waste

All our waste which is unable to be disposed of in the previous waste streams are then added to the general waste disposal systems.

Preferencing Local & Responsible Suppliers

Reducing waste and impact starts at the top of the supply chain, this is why we source our supplies from local and responsible supply partners.

We have a Green Supplier Policy which opens the conversation between suppliers about our sustainability expectations.

Responsible Cafes

Data provided by Clean Up Australia estimates that 1.84 BILLION take away coffee cups are used by Australians each year! To reduce our contribution to this figure, we have joined Responsible Cafes in their endeavour to reduce single use coffee cups.

To encourage guests to BYO coffee cup we are offering $0.50 discount on coffees to everyone who BYO clean coffee cup!

Edible Gardens and Compost

In the past year we have revitalized our organic edible garden located near our main building. This is a living project that grows and evolves with the seasons to provide fresh herbs and produce for our Rainforest Restaurant kitchen (and delightful garnishes for creative cocktails in the lounge bar!)

Revegetation and Regeneration Initiatives

Where invasive weed infestations are minimal, we opt to remove these weeds by hand. However, in more extensive infestations we responsibly use recommended herbicides for bush regeneration.

Under the guidance of Tamborine Mountain Landcare, we have recently planted our new Richmond Birdwing Butterfly Garden to support the threatened species of butterfly. The dedicated Richmond Butterfly Vines are still small but we hope that they will support generations of the large colourful butterflies for years to come.

Energy Efficiency

From small acts of individuals to infrastructure upgrades there are many aspects that we have implemented to reduce or electrical consumption.

Solar Power- Due to our location solar power is difficult to harness. We have panels installed on suitable buildings on our site and have plans to increase our solar consumption in future projects.

We ensure that all our electrical appliances meet energy efficiency standards to reduce unnecessary consumption.

Ethical Purchasing

We are committed to respecting and preserving cultural heritage. As such, we do not sell merchandise derived from heritage artefacts or items of significant cultural value. We also encourage our guests to avoid purchasing such items from other sources, in support of ethical and culturally respectful practices.

Water Preservation

Fresh water is an increasingly precious commodity across the globe it is critical to be mindful of usage and utilise water efficient technologies through all parts of our operation.

Financial Support

Wildcare Australia Inc.

Wildcare is a South-East Queensland based non-for-profit organisation that does incredible work in the rescue, rehabilitation and release of native wildlife. With our partnership with Containers for Change we donate all the funds raised from our 10c Collection bins across the park.

Between April 2023 and May 2024 we have raised $4733.40. So when you visit make sure you recycle your bottles and cans and know you are helping our local wildlife thrive!

Tamborine Mountain Landcare

Tamborine Mountain Landcare is a local community land care group that manages the restoration and conservation of the vital natural bushland and environment of Tamborine Mountain which we call home.

We are proud supporters of the work that they do and have an optional contribution of 1% of all sales park wide. This is a small pledge from our guests which shows that small actions by many can have a huge impact when coordinated together!

SES (State Emergency Services)

The SES is a critical team of volunteers who are integral parts of the community. From fires to floods, they are responsible for the preparation, first response and recovery of the wide variety of natural emergencies which our communities face.

You can find donation boxes throughout the park to help contribute to this crucial service.

Make a Wish Foundation

Every single day Make a Wish Australia brings amazing people together to create inspirational, life changing wishes for critically ill children.

During the holidays we facilitate daily activities from onsite educational bushwalks, to nature crafts and more! Participation in these activities are by gold coin donation with all funds going to Make a Wish Foundation.
